After more than 25 years of covering red-carpet style at events all around the world, NBC/Universal Telemundo host Rodner Figueroa (rodnerfigueroa.com) was well prepared for his foray into fashion design, a career move that was largely prompted by his fans.
“I’ve been covering shows for more than two decades, and in doing so, I would read my followers’ comments saying they loved the designs they were seeing, but that unfortunately those clothes would not fit them,” says the 2014 Emmy winner. “They were forever asking me to design a collection, based on my knowledge and taste, that took all body shapes into account. The task at hand seemed impossible, but I [was up for] the challenge.”
This fall, those requests become reality in the form of an eponymous 19-piece capsule collection that consists of kaftans, day dresses and blouses that are both comfortable and understatedly elegant, just the way its creator intended.
“All women want to feel beautiful, so I wanted to design clothes that do just that with chic, timeless, effortless style,” adds Figueroa, who had the garments hand-manufactured in El Salvador along with his partner Ernesto Mathies. Made with natural fabrics, soft to the touch and rich in texture, the line also serves as a tribute to Figueroa’s late mother, Eucaris Rigual, who remains a huge style influence in his life.
“These pieces are meant to be versatile; you can wear them as they are or make them your own,” says Figueroa, who’s already at work on his second collection, which will be presented at the Latin American Fashion Summit here in Miami in November. “And they are made for all women.”
